ACT Sports Minister Andrew Barr Says New Canberra Stadium Will Have A Roof

The Australian Capital Territory government said that "the proposed CBD stadium will have a roof" -- it is just a question of whether it "will be a retractable roof or a fixed one," according to David Polkinghorne of the CANBERRA TIMES. The government hopes "to redevelop the Civic area down to Lake Burley Griffin, with a new stadium part of a decade-long project that is subject to an approved business model." The first step in the A$200M-A$300M ($184M-$276M) project "is relocating the Olympic pool and then planning will begin on the stadium, with construction hoped to begin" before '20. ACT Sports Minister Andrew Barr said that a roof "was a necessity and would allow the stadium to be used for more than just sport, with concerts and other major events also possible year round" (CANBERRA TIMES, 7/21).
