Int'l Swimming Federation To Award $3M At 2013 Worlds, Nearly Double From '11 Worlds

The Int'l Swimming Federation (FINA) will award €2.4M ($3M) in prizes at the upcoming World Championships in Barcelona, nearly double what it awarded at the previous World Championships two years ago in Shanghai, according to the EFE. FINA will "reward the athletes and teams that finish among the top six in five of the six disciplines of the Championships." In swimming, Gold Medal winners will receive €11,700 ($15,030), Silver Medal winners €7,800 ($10,020) and Bronze Medal winners €3,900 ($5,010). Any swimmer who breaks a world record will be awarded an additional €19,500 ($25,050) (EFE, 7/10).
