La Liga Side Rayo Vallecano Able To Gain UEFA Licensing Even If Stadium Fails Inspection

Madrid's City Council's report in which the "Technical Building Inspection (ITE) qualified La Liga side Rayo Vallecano's Vallecas stadium as unfavorable will not be a significant obstacle as Rayo Vallecano seeks UEFA licensing," according to F.J. Garrido of AS. What could happen "is that Rayo might be forced to play its home games at an alternate location." Part of the decision regarding the club's ability to secure UEFA licensing will be decided by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS), which will decide whether Rayo meets economic standards. Once it is "determined whether the club meets economic standards, the second phase will involve an evaluation of the facilities at Vallecas." If the stadium does not pass inspection, "the club will not be allowed to play European games there" (AS, 7/7).
