Olympic Notes: 2012 London Participants To Receive 75% More Than Beijing

The Olympic federations participating in the 2012 London Olympics will receive $519.6M, a 75.6% rise from the $296M earned at the 2008 Beijing Games. Olympic federations received $256M from the 2004 Athens Games (EFE, 5/29). ... The attempt to further globalize American football "has suffered a blow." The Int'l Federation of American Football's intitial application by the IOC "was denied." IOC officials will meet with IFAF representatives within the next 45 days "to discuss how the group can strengthen its application for future consideration" (FOX SPORTS, 5/28). ... The IOC has dismissed an allegation that the South African Sports Confederation & Olympic Committee "had fallen foul of the Olympic Charter by paying its board members flat allowances" (SOWETAN LIVE, 5/27). ... Russian Hockey Federation President Vladislav Tretiak said that the coach of Russia's national men's hockey team, Zinetula Bilyaletdinov, "will lead the team into the upcoming Olympic season despite being officially censured Tuesday" (R-SPORT, 5/28).
