Organizing Committee Calculates With Budget Of More Than $32M For 2017 Hockey Worlds

The organizing committee for the 2017 Int'l Ice Hockey Federation World Championship, which will take place in Germany and France, calculates a budget of €25M ($32.4M) for the event, according to the DPA. That's about twice as much as Germany spent when it successfully hosted the world championship in '10. The 2017 IIHF World Championship "is financially very important for the German Hockey Federation (DEB) after the national team failed to qualify for the Olympics in February." The federation has already secured €1.5M ($1.94M) and €2M ($2.6M), respectively, "through the sale of rights." A possible profit "would be shared between the DEB and its marketing partner Infront." The tournament breaks even if it reaches an occupancy rate of 70%. The ticket prices for the event in four years are expected to range between €7-€99 ($9-$128) (DPA, 5/28).
