Greek Club Panathinaikos To Fight EPO Decision To Deny Superleague Licenses

Greek Superleague club Panathinaikos "has expressed its confidence in overturning the Hellenic Football Federation's (EPO) decision to deny it, and seven other clubs," licenses for next season's Superleague, according to SOCCEREX. The Athens club, "which finished sixth in the 16-team league last season," has had its license application rejected along with Aris Salonica, PAS Giannina, OFI Crete, Panionios and Panthrakikos. Relegated Kerkyra and AEK Athens, which "had submitted applications before their demotion was confirmed, also saw their applications denied." Panathinaikos said in a statement, "It was with much surprise that we were informed of the EPO's licensing committee decision regarding the new season. Panathinaikos produced full evidence… demonstrating its viability and guarantees for the present and the future" (SOCCEREX, 5/24).
