Ugandan Government Disbands Rival Football Leagues In Favor Of New Premier League

The Ugandan Cabinet on Wednesday "resolved to step into the dispute between the Federation of Uganda FA (FUFA) and the Uganda Super League Ltd. and disband the two national leagues (FSL and USL) in favour of a new Uganda Premier League," which will kick off at the start of the '13-14 season, according to Mark Baber of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. The meeting was chaired by the second deputy PM Henry Kajura and decided to implement the recommendations of Education & Sports Minister and former urban warfare instructor Jessica Alupo, who said, "No league will kick off next season if it is not one." Alupo hopes that "existing USL sponsors Supersport and Uganda Breweries Ltd. under their Bell Lager brand will sponsor the new league but insisted that clubs will be responsible for running the league and not the federation" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 5/10).
