DTM Season Opener Attracts 200K Less Viewers On ARD; Hockey Worlds Top On Sport1

German public broadcaster ARD "has attracted 200,000 less viewers to its broadcast of the opening race of the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) at Hockenheim," according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. A total of 1.07 million viewers tuned in on Sunday to watch the victory of BMW driver Augusto Farfus. The race, which started at 1:30pm German time, recorded a 10.4% market share. In the target demographic 14-49, ARD obtained a 8.7% share, which is distinctively above the channel's average (DWDL, 5/6).

HOCKEY WORLDS: DWDL's Krei also reported German free-to-air TV channel Sport1 "received top ratings for its 2013 Int'l Ice Hockey Federation World Championship coverage." The German national team's opening game against Finland attracted an average of 350,000 viewers on Friday. The game, which Germany lost 4-3 in OT, had a 1.3% market share. In the target demographic 14-49, Sport1 recorded a 1.4% on Friday. Germany's second match against defending champion Russia on Sunday was watched by 490,000 viewers. Russia's 4-1 victory received a 4.6% market share. In the target demographic, the game obtained a 5.3% share (DWDL, 5/6).

EUROPA LEAGUE: DWDL's Krei also reported German free-to-air TV channel kabel eins "recorded satisfying ratings for its broadcast of the second leg of the Europa League semifinal matchup between Chelsea and Basel." The game, which aired on Thursday evening, attracted more than 1.5 million viewers. The game's first half obtained a 6.9% market share in the target demographic 14-49. During the second half of the match, which Chelsea won 3-1, the market share in the target demographic increased to 8.6% (DWDL, 5/6).
