South American football governing body CONMEBOL President NICOLAS LEOZ "announced his resignation from FIFA's executive committee for health reasons" on Tuesday. The 84-year-old Paraguayan, "who had heart surgery for the fourth time in December," has led CONMEBOL since '86 and been on the FIFA executive committee since '98 (REUTERS, 4/23). ... Second Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg "has extended its contract" with Sports Dir IVICA GRLIĊ until '15. The 43-year-old "played between '04-11 for the team and has been its sports director since Oct. '11" (DPA, 4/22). ... Cricket Ireland has elected ROBIN WALSH as its president at its AGM held in Dundalk. The 73-year-old is a former controller of BBC NI and editor of BBC Nine O'Clock Television News in London. Former North West Chair and current Cricket Ireland Cricket Committee Chair JOE DOHERTY was named president elect and will take over the reins from Walsh in 12 months time (Cricket Ireland). ... The National Olympic Committee of Rwanda has elected ROBERT BAYIGAMBA as its president. Bayigamba, who played 10 years for the national volleyball team, has been consecutively president of the Rwanda volleyball federation, VP of the RNOC and minister of youth and sport. Bayigamba succeeds Brig. Gen. CHARLES RUDAKUBANA, who was leading the organization since '09 (RNOC).
