League Notes: Trade Unions Call On FIFA To Deprive Qatar Of 2022 World Cup

Int'l trade unions have called on FIFA "to deprive Qatar of its right to host the 2022 World Cup because it has failed to end what they term 21st century slavery and adopt international labor standards for the Gulf state’s more than one million foreign workers" (MIDDLE EAST ONLINE, 4/18). ... Indian Sports Minister Jitendra Singh said that "the country will put up a unified front at the meeting with the IOC on May 7 in a bid to lift the suspension slapped on India" (IANS, 4/17). ... The Pakistan Cricket Board, "in a bid to prove its credentials as an independent body free of government interference, presented a copy of its constitution" to the Int'l Cricket Council top brass on the sidelines of its board meeting in Dubai (GULF NEWS, 4/18).
