Dusseldorf EG Comes Up With Money To Secure Participation In '13-14 DEL Season

German Hockey League (DEL) club Dusseldorf EG said that it will participate in the '13-14 DEL season, according to Olaf Kupfer of the WESTDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG. The announcement "came after weeks and months of tremble about the club's future due to its financial troubles." DEG Managing Dir Elmar Schmellenkamp said, "We are happy that we are able to set this important sign for the team and the surrounding today." A club statement read: "The securing of the financial foundation is the result of regional corporation, which consists of various packages." Additional information of the financial solution will follow, however, reports suggest that "the player payroll can be slightly increased" for the '13-14 season. The club's new payroll is expected to be between €4M-€4.5M ($5.1M-$5.8M) for the next season. Officials "were apparently able to come up" with the €1.5M ($1.9M) the club "needed" to secure its survival (WESTDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG, 3/28).
