Bolt, Ennis Win Top Laureus Awards; Coe, Phelps, Murray Also Honored At Rio Ceremony

Jamaican sprinter USAIN BOLT was named Sportsman of the Year for the third time on Monday night at the 2013 Laureus World Sport Awards in Rio de Janeiro. The Sportswoman of the Year award went to British Gold Medal-winning heptathlete JESSICA ENNIS. Tennis player ANDY MURRAY, who earned his first Grand Slam and an Olympic Gold Medal, was the winner of the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award. Dominican Republic’s FELIX SANCHEZ, received the Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award after winning the Olympic 400 metre hurdles gold medal in London, eight years after he won it for the first time in Athens in '04. Brazilian Paralympic swimmer DANIEL DIAS was Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award for the second time. A special Laureus Academy Exceptional Achievement Award went to swimmer MICHAEL PHELPS, the most decorated Olympian of all time with a career total of 22 medals. And British Olympic Association Chair SEBASTIAN COE received the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award (Laureus).
