ESPN STAR Sports To Launch New Channel With Focus On India

ESPN STAR Sports is "set to launch a new channel, especially for the Indian sub-continent keeping in mind the growing need of the Indian sports fans," according to the PTI. The new channel -- STAR Sports 2 -- will be officially launched on Monday and "will showcase live and non-live events across sporting categories -- cricket, soccer, tennis, motor racing and golf." In the first month of its launch, the channel will cover tournaments like Serie A and La Liga football, Bangladesh Premier League cricket, NASCAR racing and prime tennis from the men's ATP Tour amongst others (PTI, 3/7). INDIAN TELEVISION reported the channel "will be initially available on digital cable networks and will be subsequently rolled out on analog cable networks across the country." STAR "is launching the new channel to avoid overlapping of cricket content with other sports content" (INDIAN TELEVISION, 3/5).
