Bundesliga Strong On Sky; ARD Can Count On Winter Sports; Basketball Flops On Kabel Eins

German pay-TV channel Sky "obtained a double-digit market share with its simulcast of Saturday's Bundesliga games," according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. A total of 1.16 million viewers tuned in on Saturday afternoon. In the target age demographic of 14-49, Sky recorded a 10.9% market share. The matchup between Bayern Munich and TSG Hoffenheim, however, barely missed the million viewership mark. Bayern's 1-0 victory was watched by 980,000 viewers. In the target demographic, the Sunday afternoon game received a 7.7% share. The draw between Dusseldorf and Mainz on Sunday evening was unable to post those kind of numbers and obtained only a 3.8% share in the target demographic. A total of 640,000 watched the 1-1 tie (DWDL, 3/4).

WINTER WONDERLAND: DWDL's Krei also reported German public broadcaster ARD "recorded once again top ratings with its winter sports broadcasts." On Sunday morning, the women's biathlon mass start race attracted 3.68 million viewers. The number equaled a strong market share of 26.7%. The following men's mass start race was watched by 3.77 million viewers and recorded a 22.8% market share. In addition, the women's Super-G race, which started at 12:14pm German time, tied 3.38 million viewers to their TV sets. The number translated into a 23.3% share (DWDL, 3/4).

FAST BREAK FAILURE: DWDL's Krei also reported German private TV channel kabel eins "received low ratings" for its broadcast of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) game between Bayern Munich and Brose Baskets Bamberg. Only 190,000 viewers tuned in to watch the first quarter of the game. The market shares were 1.3% overall and 1.9% in the target demographic. The viewership slightly increased during the course of the game to 270,000 in the fourth quarter. The number equaled a 2.5% share (DWDL, 3/4).
