Oberstdorf Submits Bid For Nordic, Ski-Flying Worlds; Lost Out On Three Previous Occasions

The German Ski Federation revealed that Oberstdorf "has, despite three previously unsuccessful bids, submitted its bid to host the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships" to the Int'l Ski Federation (FIS), according to the SID. The little Bavarian village hosted NordicWorld Ski Championships in 1987 and 2005, and failed with its bids to host the championships in '13, '15 and '17. DSV President Alfons Hörmann said: "I see our chances as good, and I am optimistic." Should the bid be unsuccessful, Oberstdorf "will not bid again." In this case, the DSV would like "to bring as quickly as possible" the Alpine World Ski Championships to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In addition to its bid for the Nordic World Ski Championships, Oberstdorf "has also bid to host the 2018 Ski Flying World Championships." FIS will annouce its decisions for both events at its congress in Barcelona in June '14 (SID, 3/2).
