Olympics Notes: Russian Olympic Head Against Athletes Returning Medals

Russian Olympic Committee Head Alexander Zhukov said that wrestlers "should not return their medals in protest" against the intention of the IOC to exclude that sport from the Games. Zhukov said: "We now need to make efforts to persuade the IOC to keep wrestling. The honestly-won Olympic medals must remain with their owners" (XINHUA, 2/28). ... A total 16 triathletes have been awarded "London 2012" Olympic Scholarships by the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity’s World Programme Fund. This is the largest number of awards in Int'l Triathlon Union’s history as an Olympic sport. The recipients include eight men and eight women from National Olympic Committees that meet the Olympic Solidarity aims (ITU). ... Former int'ls Peter Nicol and Tim Garner will contest seven squash matches in seven days on seven continents in a bid to help raise the profile of Squash's campaign to join the program of the 2020 Olympic Games. The Xodus 7 Continent Challenge will see the English pair travel more than 40,000 miles and spend over 70 hours on planes over the course of a week (Xodus).
