League Notes: Afghan Cricket Board Hopeful Of BCCI Support
The Afghanistan Cricket Board is keen that the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the int'l community in its country "add to the existing resources and provide a thrust to the development of the game." The ACB "has identified coaching, umpiring and scoring as the core aspects for immediate attention and asked the BCCI to make a significant contribution on these areas" (THE HINDU, 2/18). ... Former world marathon record holder, Paul Tergat, claimed on Monday that "doping among Kenyan runners is isolated as opposed to being the widespread problem as alleged." He "called for accusations levelled against the country's runners to be treated as individual cases while refuting claims made by retired three-time world steeplechase champion Moses Kiptanui last week." Kiptanui claimed last week that "use of banned substances was rampant among the country's distance runners" (XINHUA, 2/18).
