Olympics Notes: IOC Announces Shortlist Of Three Cities For 2018 Youth Games

The IOC announced that Buenos Aires, Argentina; Glasgow, Scotland; and Medellín, Colombia have been shortlisted in the bid to host the 3rd Summer Youth Olympic Games in '18. The three cities were chosen from among five candidate cities vying to host the YOG. Guadalajara, Mexico, and Rotterdam, Netherlands did not make the final shortlist (IOC).

GOING TO SOCHI: Japan women's hockey team defeated Denmark Sunday in the final qualification round to earn a spot in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. To celebrate the victory, Team Japan's official sponsor Takasu Clinic, "a leading cosmetic surgery company," will provide up to 100M JPY ($1.07M) "to support the players" (CHUNICHI SPORTS, 2/13). ... The Sochi 2014 Ambassadors team working with Italian chef Roberto Bruno has created Sochi 2014 sweets dedicated to the first Russian Winter Games in an improvised chocolate lab. After tasting four versions of sweets with different flavors the two favorites were selected. The winners were determined by votes from the creators. These sweets will go on sale across the country under the Sochi 2014 brand in May '13 (Sochi 2014).
