Chilean Football Negotiates $106M Deal With Mega For Media Rights To 2018 WC Qualifying
The Chilean National Association of Professional Football (ANFP) has agreed to a $106M media rights deal with broadcaster Mega, according to José Antonio Acosta of LA TERCERA. The deal was brokered after a number of weeks "of intense and behind closed doors" conversations. The broadcaster will have "absolutely all the rights to the national football team" during the Russia World Cup qualifying process ('14-18). According to sources involved in the negotiations, Mega will pay $106M to have the exclusive worldwide media rights of all forms to the national team. The model of selling all the media rights to the national teams in one package "is not new." Former ANFP President Reinaldo Sánchez sold a similar package for the rights to the national team's media rights during its qualifying campaign to the 2010 South Africa World Cup. That particular deal with broadcaster Canal 13 was worth $21M (LA TERCERA, 12/7).
