Aussie Broadcaster Seven Sport Fails To Impress With New Jockey-Cam

Australian broadcaster Seven's new camera angle -- jockey-cam -- "may as well be called bum-cam" because what it showed Tuesday was the derrieres of the jockeys in front, according to Amanda Meade of THE AUSTRALIAN. TV viewers "were treated to a jockey's-eye view of the race" from helmet-mounted cameras. The result was a race that "felt a bit like a rollercoaster at times." Seven Sport Exec Producer Nick Barrow said that Derby Day on Saturday was "the first time jockey-cam had been used on a Seven broadcast." Barrow said, "Jockey-cam delivers a terrific insight for our viewers into the pressure and skills involved in riding a thoroughbred racehorse in the biggest races." However, Twitter feedback was negative, with some viewers "complaining the new perspective made them nauseous." Seven also introduced a second innovation Tuesday, screening interviews with the jockeys in the mounting yard before a race (THE AUSTRALIAN, 11/7).
