League Notes: Bulletproof Buses In Pakistan Serve As Ploy To Attract Foreign Teams

Pakistani cricket chiefs approved the purchase of bulletproof buses as part of the "efforts to persuade foreign teams to return after a long suspension over security fears" (AFP, 10/24). V8 Supercars officials said that the Gold Coast 600 has "proven its worth" and Australia's Queensland government must guarantee taxpayer funding. V8 Supercars spokesperson Col Hitchcock said that the event attracted more than 180,000 people in recent days and provided a "valuable economic boost for the tourist strip." Hitchcock said, "The proof is in the pudding; 182,000 people on site over three days -- the Gold Coast needs tourists" (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 10/24).
