SPL Club Hearts Fail To Pay Wages For Second Consecutive Month

Scottish Premier League club Heart of Midlothian FC is "on a collision course with the SPL" after failing to pay its wages in full for a second successive month, according to Alan Marshall of the Scottish DAILY RECORD. Hearts Manager John McGlynn and six of his players "have not received their October salaries, and Hearts now have 48 hours to inform the league formally." Last month's problem was believed to be discussed at an SPL meeting on Sept. 24. No "punishment has yet been handed down," but league officials could now act to make an example of the club, which "also paid their wages late four times last season." One of the sanctions at the league's disposal is a "transfer embargo, with the new Financial Fair Play rules dictating that a new signing cannot be registered while wages are due to others" (DAILY RECORD, 10/17).
