A "list of 101 notable Chinese figures" recently published by Taiwanese web portal Yam.com included 2011 French Open women's champion LI NA and former NBA player YAO MING (WANTCHINATIMES.com, 10/7). ... South Korean singer PSY, "whose hit song 'Gangnam Style' has taken the pop world by storm," will wave the checkered flag at the F1 Korean Grand Prix on Sunday, where he will also be performing live (AFP, 10/11). ... Former Sydney Roosters MATTHEW ELLIOTT will be named head coach of the National Rugby League New Zealand Warriors on Friday. The new coach will "face something of a player rebellion" after several stars last night questioned why interim coach TONY IRO was not given the job. Forward ELIJAH TAYLOR said, "The players all want Tony to be the coach" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 10/12). ... Cardiac arrest survivor FABRICE MUAMBA has been invited by FIFA President SEPP BLATTER to Zurich next month to discuss a possible role with the organization. Speaking at the Leaders in Football convention in London he said that he now found going to matches "tough emotionally, but was attracted to a career in sports politics." He said, "I like this kind of side of it, making decisions" (REUTERS, 10/11).
