League Notes: No Final Decision About Nurburgring F1 Race By FIA

Motorsport governing body FIA "has not made a final decision about the F1 race at the struggling Nurburgring racetrack." The Grand Prix of Germany "has been included in the '13 F1 race calender by the World Motor Sport Council on Friday." However, the council "did not name which racetrack will host the grand prix." An alternative for the Nurburgring would be the Hockenheimring, which hosts the German F1 race every other year (DPA, 9/28). ... Seven schools in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, Malaysia have been chosen to take part in a pioneer golf program at the grassroots level run by the Malaysian Golf Association and Education Ministry. Professional Golf of Malaysia VP Mohamed Zain Yusuf said that the program would be partially funded by the government through RM500,000 ($163,000) a year. Each school would pick a maximum of 35 students to join the program (BERNAMA, 10/1).

SPEAKING OUT: South African Football Association President Kirsten Nematandani has spoken out strongly against the growing incidents of hooliganism within South African football, saying this disturbing development should be eliminated without delay. On Sunday, irate Mamelodi Sundowns supporters tore down barriers and knocked down the club dugout in protest after losing 2-0 to Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium. Nematandani said, "Most people go to watch soccer as a source of entertainment with their families, and they need to be protected from these thugs" (SAFA). ... The Central Districts Cricket Association "is interviewing applicants next week in its hunt for a director of cricket." Central Districts Cricket Association CEO Hugh Henderson Friday "would not disclose how many people are vying for the newly created position or where they were from," but he said that the fulltime or part-time position "entailed the responsibility of overseeing and coordinating the game in the fragmented region (HAWKE'S BAY TODAY, 9/29).
