Handball Bundesliga Extends Its TV-Rights Deal With Sport1 Through 2017
The German Handball Bundesliga (HBL) "extended its TV contract with private-TV channel Sport1 through the '16-17 season," according to the DPA. Sport1 "will continue to be Germany's handball channel No.1." The Munich-based TV channel and the HBL extended their contract, "which expires in '13," for another four years. Sport1 will reportedly "live broadcast 100 Handball Bundesliga games per season." In addition, Sport1 will also cover the HBL Super-Cup and All Star Game, as well as a selection of DHB-Pokal (Handball Cup) games including the final. According to the league "the post-exploitation rights, which were in the possession of public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, are still available" (DPA, 9/25).
