Marketplace Roundup: GAC Re-Ups With Sheffield Utd.

Global shipping and logistics company GAC renewed its sponsorship deal with Championship club Sheffield United. Since forming links with the Blades in '09, GAC went on to become the official logistics partner of Sheffield United and followed that by sponsoring the South Stand of its stadium in Bramall Lane (GAC Group).

BASKETBALL DEALS: Bayern Munich Basketball extended its title sponsorship deal with online print provider flyeralarm for the upcoming '12-13 Beko Basketball Bundesliga season. Flyeralarm has been the club's title sponsor since '11 (FC Bayern Munich Basketball). ... Spanish second division basketball team CB Clavijo "has renewed their partnership" with communications company Knet Comunicaciones. The deal marks the third year in a row that the company has agreed to be the team's main sponsor (EFE, 8/19).

LONG DISTANCE DEAL: ASICS Malaysia has signed as the new official apparel sponsor of the 2012 Allianz Penang Bridge Int'l Marathon, marking its inaugural partnership with the marathon to be held in November. ASICS sponsors 52 marathons around the world, including the N.Y.C. Marathon, Paris Marathon, Tokyo Marathon and Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (Penang Marathon).

COMMUNITY REACH: British Gas is backing a British Swimming Heroes Tour that aims to inspire kids, and as Team GB swimmer Keri-Anne Payne said, stop them from sitting around "watching TV." The tour is running until Sept. 17 and will feature Payne along with other members of Team GB swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo squads. They will tour the country teaching kids "the various aquatic disciplines" (MARKETINGMAGAZINE.co.uk, 8/20).
