Falkirk FC Suspends Its PA Announcer Over Inappropriate Rangers Remark

Scottish First Division club Falkirk FC suspended its PA announcer for making "inappropriate" comments about Rangers this past weekend, according to the PA. The stadium announcer reportedly referred to Rangers as "Sevco Franchise" when reading out half-time scores during the interval at Falkirk's game against Raith Rovers on Saturday. The Scottish First Division side have also "apologised to Rangers and launched an investigation." A statement from Falkirk Chair Martin Ritchie on its official website read: "We have already apologised to Rangers FC, and would now like to apologise to the many Rangers supporters who have been in contact with the club. Falkirk FC are treating this incident very seriously and the individual concerned has been suspended from his duties, pending a full investigation by the club." When asked about the comments, Rangers' Manager Ally McCoist said, "I couldn't give a monkey's, to be honest with you. If he wants to have a wee dig, he can have a wee dig" (PA, 8/20). In Glasgow, Chris Roberts reported that Rangers CEO Charles Green claimed he is "always the victim" and swears the Scottish Football Association and Scottish Premier League are out to get him. Green is raging with top-flight bosses over the Dundee United cash row and has been "accused of playing to the gallery in a bid to keep Rangers fans onside." However, Green said: "We are not allowed to forget what has happened, and I just feel I am always the victim of the piece. Every day it's one thing after another" (DAILY RECORD, 8/20).
