Rio De Janeiro Government To Choose Giroflex For Maracanã Seats

The Rio de Janeiro government will announce "in the upcoming days" that they have chosen Giroflex to supply the seats to the Maracanã stadium, according to Marcelo Baltar of GLOBO ESPORTE. The Brazilian company was chosen over Italian company Bertele and will be in charge of producing 78,000 seats for the stadium that will host the 2014 World Cup final. The seats will come in three different colors (blue, white, yellow) and four models: General Admission, Hospitality, VIP, VVIP. All of the seats "will be made in Brazil" and production will begin in September. Giroflex's rivals Bertele and Chinese company Dafeng were going to have the seats made overseas. The forecast is that the installation of the seats "will be finished in February." Giroflex has partnerships with German and Polish companies and will offer the same seat models as those used in Munich's Allianz Arena, Warsaw's Polish Army stadium and London's Olympic Park. Terms of the deal "were not revealed." However, GLOBO ESPORTE reported that Giroflex could receive as much as R$30M ($14.9M) for the deal (GLOBO ESPORTE, 8/16).
