Germany's Men's National Team Home Games Create $11.1M In Revenue

The German Football Federation (DFB) "generates about €9M ($11.1M) in revenue at home games of the German national team," according to Michael Ashelm of the FRANKFURTER ALLGEMEINE ZEITUNG. Wednesday's int'l friendly against Argentina is a perfect example of "the economic importance of national team home games for the DFB." The federation receives on average €2.2M ($2.8M) "from ticket sales." Added to this is €1M ($1.2M) that the DFB "receives from marketing partner Infront for sale of board advertisement." The biggest chunk of money comes from public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, which pay around €4M ($5.1M) "for the broadcasting rights of each national team match." Another "source of revenue is the sale of so-called hospitality packages." Prices for those packages start at €400 ($499) and include a seat on the grand stand as well as free parking, beverages and food . For Wednesday's match against Argentina the DFB was able to sell about 1,600 of those packages (FAZ, 8/15).
