Businessman Wants To Launch A KHL Team In East Germany

German businessman Stefan Lindner "wants to establish a hockey team in Leizpig, Germany, that competes in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League," according to Stefan Krause of BILD. It is Lindner's "second attempt to found a KHL team in Leipzig." This time he "wants to realize his vision with the help of Leipzig-based fourth division football club 1. FC Lok." Lindner wants to build an ice rink on the grounds of the Bruno-Plache-Stadium. He said it will be "a lightweight construction, for 7,500 people, ready in half a year." A year ago, Lindner proposed to upgrade Leipzig's old Convention Center 15 for €35M. The German Hockey Federation and Russian league leaders "rejected this proposal." Lindner now promises "everything is resolved." Even the required development of youth players seems secured, it will be carried out through a partnership with second division hockey club ETC Crimmitschau (BILD, 8/10).
