Australian Rugby Club Boss Upset With Speculation Clubs Are Unhappy

National Rugby League Wests Tigers Chair David Trodden "hit out" at suggestions the NRL council is "unhappy with the performance" of the Australian Rugby League Commission, according to Stuart Honeysett of THE AUSTRALIAN. Trodden said that all 16 clubs believe the new ruling body will deliver "on the crunch issues confronting the game." Representatives from some of the 16 clubs met at St. George Leagues club in a move "designed to ensure their financial security" once the commission finalizes the next media rights deal. It has been estimated the code could net in excess of $1B and the clubs are "keen for as much as they can get." Trodden said, "The suggestion the clubs aren't happy with the commissioners is absolute nonsense" However, it is understood it was "a preliminary get-together to prioritise the issues the NRL council wants to address" with the commission when they meet on Aug. 27 (THE AUSTRALIAN, 8/15).
