Oakley Gives 10-Year-Old Brazilian Surfing Prodigy Sponsorship Deal

Oakley "closed a sponsorship deal" with 10-year-old Brazilian surfer Mateus Sena, according to MAQUINADOESPORTE.com.br. Sena will have the company's brand on his surfboard. He said, "I am very happy. I love surfing, and this sponsorship will surely give me another incentive to surf more every day and get better." The Brazilian has been competing since he was 5 years old and has only missed out on the final in his age category once. The sports equipment company sponsors "more than 100 Brazilian athletes across different sports," including 19 Brazilian surfers (MAQUINADOESPORTE, 7/30).

HANG 10: Harley-Davidson Australia will back the Australian Surf Festival supported by Essential Energy in Port Macquarie from Aug. 11-25. The event will have more than 500 surfers from Australia competing across five disciplines and 34 titles. The event will feature national titles up for grabs in Longboard, Surf Masters, Stand-Up Paddleboard, Alaia and Single Fin. This year will also see the introduction of a new Stand Up Paddle Board racing division involving a technical race between 4-8km and a 20km marathon. (SURFING AUSTRALIA).
