Malaga Owner Attempting To Sell Team As Players Go Unpaid

La Liga's Malaga are up for sale, but "there is no buyer," according to Carlos Cariño of AS. On Tuesday, the players were "hoping to receive the first part of unpaid wages from June, July and last season." The difficult situation the club is going through has pushed the players, "in an act of generosity," to put the interest of the team before their particular interest. Malaga defender Welington came out and said, "We are more preoccupied about the future of the club than getting paid." The club had promised the players they would be paid by Wednesday at the latest if they did not launch an official complaint with the player's union. If the team has not paid the players by December, "they will be banned from competing in La Liga." Owner Sheikh Al-Thani owes the team's former owner Fernando Saez €3.5M ($4.3M), "which was to be paid" July 27. The club is now listening to offers for some of their best players. There had been talks that Albanian company Taci Oil was interested in buying the team, but an official statement from the company's headquarters in Tirana, Albania denied those rumors (AS, 7/31).
