Rugby Club Bradford Bulls Fight To Stay Alive, But Signs Are Not Encouraging

Super League side Bradford Bulls' Administrator Brendan Guilfoyle who is running the financially-stricken club "has put the onus on the Rugby Football League to keep alive their survival hopes, but signs are not encouraging," according to the London TELEGRAPH. The future of the beleaguered Bradford Bulls remains in the balance. RFL Dir of Licensing and Standards Blake Solly said that "the governing body are still considering Guilfoyle's request" for them to pay the players' wages for August, and have promised an answer by Tuesday afternoon. Solly added that "the RFL's BOD were also planning a conference call" Monday afternoon to discuss the latest, modified offer put to Guilfoyle from a local group of businessmen, known as the ABC consortium, but are likely to reject it. Last week the RFL described the ABC consortium's offer as "unreasonable and unrealistic" and Solly said Monday that "he anticipated a similar response despite the amendment." Solly said, "We've told them a number of times any offer cannot be conditional but we're still getting conditional offers. I don't think they're going to get a lot of change out of the board" (TELEGRAPH, 7/30). The PA reported the Bradford Bulls have been "deducted six points for going into administration." The RFL's BOD imposed the punishment after the "ailing Super League club breached the game's insolvency regulations." The deduction will take immediate effect and drops the Bulls out of the play-off positions, from seventh to ninth, ahead of Sunday's trip to Warrington, with Huddersfield and Hull KR moving ahead of them (PA, 7/25).
