PSG's Ibrahimovic Signing Is A Big Score For France

The French authorities "should be overjoyed" that Ligue 1's Paris St. Germain owner Qatar Investment Authority has lured Zlatan Ibrahimovic from AC Milan, according to a FINANCIAL TIMES editorial. The publication opines that "the ultra-rich may not receive the red carpet these days in Europe’s capitals, but the French people are big winners from Qatari largesse." Players such as Ibrahimovic are "both balletic and brutish, playing out operatic roles in 90 minute dramas of hope, despair and triumph." His work "increases the sum of human happiness (especially for PSG fans)." In short, Ibrahimovic is "nothing but a public good." For every euro that he earns, the French state "may soon receive three in income tax," thanks to French President François Hollande’s proposed 75% rate for the ultra-rich (FINANCIAL TIMES, 7/20).
