TIGER WOODS has a short-term goal of winning The Open this week and a "long-term one of claiming Olympic gold" in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Woods said, "I hope I can qualify. I'll be 40 by then. It will be something that I've never experienced and I would love to be able to have a chance to represent my country" (PA, 7/17). ... UEFA announced the full list of nominees who will win run for the UEFA best player in Europe '11-12 award. The trophy was handed out for the first time in Monaco last August to LIONEL MESSI as part of the draw ceremony for the UEFA Champions League group stage (UEFA).
