German Hockey League Will Host Its First Outdoor Game
The German Hockey League (DEL) will play "its first-ever outdoor game" this upcoming season, according to the DPA. The premiere of the "Winter Game" will be played at the Nuremberg football stadium on Jan. 5, '13. The stadium has a capacity of 55,000. It will feature the defending DEL champions Eisbären Berlin and home team Nuremberg Ice Tigers. Eisbären Manager John Lee said, "This event will be a party for every hockey fan and helps us to excited more people about our sport." The DEL, which got the idea of an outdoor hockey game from the NHL's Winter Classic, has put a "lot of time and effort into hosting an outdoor game of its own" (DPA, 7/16).
