Organizers Say Scottish Open Will Survive Wet Weather

Scottish Open organizers "are confident there will be no repeat" of last year’s landslides after Scotland's Castle Stuart course held up to a full day's rain ahead of this weekend's £2.5M ($3.9M) tournament, according to Martin Dempster of the SCOTSMAN. The Aberdeen Asset Management-sponsored event was "blighted by bad weather" last year at Inverness. As a result, Castle Stuart bosses "decided to fork out" £70,000 ($108,000) on a drainage improvement program on the course. It has "already proved to be money well spent." On Tuesday, there was "no damage at all to the course" despite a full day of rain. Spectator car parks, which were already soggy following the U.K.'s recent wet spell, "bore the brunt of the downpours." Tournament Dir Mike Stewart said, "One or two cars had to be dragged out from their positions. But, from my side, course-wise that is, we are very pleased with the way it’s dealt with the rain" (SCOTSMAN, 7/12).
