The "relatively inexperienced" head of television at the BBC, GEORGE ENTWISTLE, is to be the next Dir-General of the publicly-funded broadcaster. Entwistle "beat a field" that included BBC COO CAROLINE THOMSON and broadcasting regulator Ofcom CEO ED RICHARDS. According to friends, Thomson is "likely to leave the BBC after a short period" (FINANCIAL TIMES, 7/4). ... The Hong Kong Cricket Association incumbent President SHAHZADA SALEEM will keep his position "after being persuaded to continue by all the clubs and stakeholders." Saleem will be uncontested for the presidency but there will be a two way battle between Kowloon Cricket Club's SIMON MILLINGTON and Little Sai Wan's SURESH GHEVRIYA for the Chair position (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST, 7/5). ... Brazilian Volleyball Federation President ARY GRACA announced his bid for the Presidency of the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). Former Croatian International DAVOR SUKER has been elected as the new President of the Croatian Football Federation. He takes over for VLATKO MARKOVIC who had been in charge since '98 (MARCA, 7/5). ... Social network site eFans named JASON MORAIS President of its BOD. Morais previously worked for Qatar Sports Investments as a Senior Market Analyst (eFans).

MANAGERS: Croatia has confirmed IGOR STIMAC as new head coach. He succeeds former international team-mate SLAVEN BILIC, who ended his six-year run to coach FC Lokomotiv Moskva. Before now, Stimac had been limited to coaching the Croatian first division (UEFA). ... Ligue 1 club Olympique de Marseille named ELIE BAUP as thier new cooach following the departure of DIDIER DESCHAMPS. The 57-year-old Baup will be in charge of last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists until '14 (UEFA).
