French Football Boss Decides To Freeze Player Bonuses Following Behavior At Euro

French Football Federation President Noël Le Graët announced he was "provisionally freezing the bonuses" for Euro 2012 and "four players will go before the disciplinary committee," according to LE MONDE. Regarding the bonuses, Le Graet said, "The whole of the bonuses of the France team at Euro 2012 are frozen. It's blocked money, which may be redistributed or not." He also spoke about the possibility of former player and coach Didier Deschamps taking over the national team. He said: "I saw Didier Deschamps quickly [Monday], either way a proposition was made to him. He confirmed to me that the French team was part of his dreams. He asked me for a period of reflection over a couple days. If Didier takes too long I will make another decision" (LE MONDE, 7/3). The AFP reported that each player of the team "was eligible for a bonus of €100,000 ($126,000)" before Le Graet's decision. Regarding the players behavior at the Euro the details are as follows. Samir Nasri "verbally abused an AFP journalist after the loss to Spain, while Ben Arfa "had a dressing room row" with head coach Laurent Blanc. Jérémy Ménez "railed at a referee" and was spotted gesturing at team captain Hugo Lloris to "shut up." Yann M'Vila refused to "shake hands with Blanc or his replacement when he was substituted" (AFP, 7/3).
