FFR Picks South Paris District For 82,000-Seat New Rugby Arena

The Ris-Orangy/Evry district on the southern outskirts of Paris was chosen as the "future large stadium" for the French Rugby Federation, according to Gilles Festor of SPORT24.com. The arena of 82,000 seats "should be opened end of '17." The site was chosen ahead of Thiais-Orly. FFR President Pierre Camou said, "We will have one of the most modern stadiums in the world with a removable roof and lawn. It will be multifunctional and will offer an exceptional comfort to the spectators." As of today, the estimated cost for the stadium is expected to be around €600M ($759.6M) with the FFR paying for anywhere between €150M to €200M (($189.9M-$253.2M). The rest of the financing will come from "private partners" and "probably a naming of the arena" (SPORT24.COM, 6/29).
