England-Italy Draws 77% TV Share on BBC One

Italy's 4-2 penalty kick victory in the Euro 2012 championship quarterfinals brought a peak audience of 23.3 million viewers to BBC One, according to Maisie McCabe of BRAND REPUBLIC. The Euro "has delivered consistently high audiences so far." Peak audience across BBC One and BBC One HD accounted for "a whopping" 77.4% share. From the kick-off at 7:45pm GMT until Italy's victory on penalties just before 10:30pm, the average audience was 20.2 million viewers. The complete BBC coverage from 7-10:45pm had an average audience of 17.4 million, or a 62.3% share (BRAND REPUBLIC, 6/25).

GERMANY:
The DPA reported that public broadcaster ARD set a new ratings record during the England-Italy match. Close to 20 million tuned in. With an average of 19.3 million viewers and a market share of 56.2%, Sunday's game was ARD's highest rated Euro 2012 broadcast that didn't feature the German national team (DPA, 6/25).

SPAIN: LEVANTE-EMV reported that Telecinco's broadcast of the clash was watched by an average audience of 6 million people, or a 41.6% market share. When the game went into extra time, the audience reached 7.4 million people. When it went to penalties, 9 million fans tuned in for a 48.6% market share (LEVANTE-EMV, 6/25).

FRANCE: In Paris, Jacques Doridam reported that 6.1 million people watched the quarterfinal game on M6 or a 27.5% market share (LE PARISIEN, 6/25).

F1 RATINGS UP IN GERMANY: The SID reported that free-to-air TV station RTL attained prime ratings for its broadcast of Sunday's European F1 Grand Prix. An average of 5.7 million people watched the race, which was held in Valencia, Spain. RTL's coverage of the action-packed F1 race had a peak audience of 6.3 million viewers (SID, 6/25).
