Rafael Nadal Will Carry The Spanish Flag At The Opening Ceremony

Rafael Nadal will be the first tennis player to carry the Spanish flag at the opening ceremony of this summer's London Games, according to Ferran Martinez of MUNDO DEPORTIVO. Nadal played in the 2008 Beijing Games where he won the gold medal beating Chile's Fernando Gonzalez in the final (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 6/20). REUTERS reported that "Nadal was the unanimous choice of the COE board." He was chosen ahead of "sailing duo Iker Martinez and Xabi Fernandez who have a gold and a silver from the Athens and Beijing Games in the 49er class event" (REUTERS, 6/20).
