Talks Planned To Discuss Rangers Players' Future

SPL Rangers Manager Ally McCoist and CEO Charles Green will meet with members of the Rangers playing squad next week "to discuss their futures," according to the BBC. Green's consortium moved the club's assets to a new firm and it believes "player contracts can also be switched." Legal and union opinion suggests players "have the right not to be contracted to the new company." Green said, "Alistair [McCoist] and I will be sitting down with them and explaining where we are." Players are due to start reporting back to Murray Park for fitness training on June 28 (BBC, 6/20). In Glasgow, Hugh Keevins reported that fans of SPL rival Celtic have "turned up the heat on SPL chairmen after calling for a boycott of clubs who vote to allow a Rangers newco into the top flight." Away matches "will be shunned" if members of the Celtic Supporters Association vote for the proposal at "an emergency meeting" on Sunday. The ban "will include games against the newco Rangers at Ibrox" (DAILY RECORD, 6/20). Meanwhile, the BBC reported that the SPL said the Rangers have "a prima facie case to answer in respect of [league] rules" over payments to players. The Rangers were investigated over "alleged player payments outside of contract" (BBC, 6/18).
