BCCI Technical Committee Calls For Major Revamp Of Raji Trophy
The Board Of Control For Cricket In India technical committee head and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly called for a major revamp of the Ranji Trophy and recommended that the earlier Elite and Plate Divisions be done away with, making it a 27-team tournament, according to PRESS TRUST OF INDIA. The committee, "recommended an overhaul of the elite" domestic event, which has been "struggling for relevance." The recommendations will be studied by the BCCI working committee who will decide whether to implement them or not. With the new 27-team format, the teams will be divided into three groups of nine teams, with each team playing eight matches in the league stage. The quarterfinals and semifinals "will also be five-day affairs" (PTI, 6/12).
