NHL moving forward with All-Star Weekend summit

The NHL has “revised” a previous posting for a job fair for members of underrepresented communities and “plans to continue with the event as scheduled” during the league's All-Star Weekend in Florida. The NHL’s “Pathway to Hockey Summit,” is intended to be an "informational career event” for those that “have historically not been exposed to hockey.” The news comes after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis released a statement accusing the event of being “discriminatory." NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman “made clear” the league is “not interested in a public back-and-forth” with DeSantis. A league spokesperson said that the “wording of the post was a mistake.” And the NHL did "not intend for the original text to include only those minority groups.” Bettman said, "What the summit is, and was, has been mischaracterized. It’s not a job fair. It was an informational session so that people could learn more about us” (THE ATHLETIC, 1/20).
