Breeders' Cup Will Take Place This Year Without Fans

The Breeders' Cup announced that this year's event the first weekend in November at Keeneland Race Course will be held without fans, making it the fourth and final major horse racing event in '20 to be run sans spectators. At the same time, the Breeders' Cup also announced that Lexington, Ky.-based Keeneland will be the host of the two-day championship annual event in '22. Next year's Breeders' Cup is slated to be held at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in the San Diego area.

Breeders' Cup officials made the decision to host the event with essential participants and personnel only after consulting with state and local health and public officials, including Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. The Breeders' Cup will run 14 championship races with purses totaling $31M at Keeneland Nov. 6 and Nov. 7. Unlike other horse racing events, the Breeders' Cup is not reducing purse amounts from '19 levels.
