P&G Supports USWNT's Equal Pay Fight In N.Y. Times Ad

p&g

Procter & Gamble declared its support for the USWNT's fight for equal pay in a full-page ad in today's edition of the N.Y. Times, where it stated they were "making a donation of $529,000 to the women’s national team’s players association, which represents the team’s interests in its dealings with U.S. Soccer." P&G, which supports U.S. Soccer through its Secret deodorant brand, said that the figure of the donation was symbolic: $23,000 for "each member of the 23-player World Cup roster." P&G's ad is the "first of more than a dozen U.S. Soccer partners and sponsors to side so openly with the team in the equal pay fight, and its support could increase the pressure" on USSF officials (NYTIMES.com, 7/14).

USWNT F Megan Rapinoe appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" this morning and was asked if she was disappointed that more corporate sponsors are not speaking up besides P&G. She said, "Yeah, I am. I think we can do a lot more, a lot more quickly" ("Meet the Press," NBC, 7/14).
