A's Set Coliseum Attendance Record With Mt. Davis Re-Opening

The A's drew 56,310 fans for last night's game against the Giants to "set the record for the largest crowd ever" at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, "as well as the largest attendance for a MLB game this season." The area known as Mount Davis was "re-opened to the public for the first time in 13 years," and the record crowd saw A's C Jonathan Lucroy "walk it off for a 4-3 victory" in 11 innings. Lucroy: "Any time you get that energy from the crowd it really is a special time. I wish we could do that every night here" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 7/22).

Meanwhile, former A's GM Sandy Alderson "gave a positive appraisal of his health before Saturday’s celebration" of the A’s '89 World Series champion team at the Coliseum. The current Mets GM, who is on medical leave after his cancer returned, said, "Health is actually pretty good. I’ve been doing some treatments. They are working. And the prognosis is good. And I feel good" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/22).
