Emmert Says NCAA Rule Changes Won't Involve Paying Athletes

NCAA President Mark Emmert said that he "expects a commission to reform college basketball to put forth proposals to modernize NCAA rules on player-agent relationships, devise new ways to handle high-profile enforcement cases and address the NBA's one-and-done rule." Emmert on Friday said in regards to schools paying players, "I haven't heard any universities say that they want to change amateurism to move into a model where student-athletes are paid by universities and universities are negotiating with agents for their relationships with a school." Emmert indicated that "allowing athletes to earn money for things such as endorsements from outside sources is worthy of consideration." Emmert: "There's a lot of discussion about the Olympic model and think it's well deserving of serious consideration inside the context of college sports" (ESPN.com, 3/2).
